Back to School Poem

In honor of the back to school season, I wanted to share a photo of my kids on their first day back along with a poem I just wrote.  I hope you enjoy it!

Twas the day school started and all through the streets

all the moms came outside to start moving their feet.

In cool exercise clothes and new tennis shoes

you could tell all these ladies were ready to cruise.

Pushing strollers and jogging and riding their bikes

wearing Ipods and ready for three mile hikes.

Was it 5, was it 10, or 15 pounds that was gained

of course lack of exercise for sure was to blame.

With the kids all at home mom had to entertain

come on, admit it, they really drove you insane.

Vacations and camps and still they were bored

add playdates and sleepovers and movies galore.

Never time for mom, it was all for the kids

tending to them was really all that you did.

But now our great teachers give us a few hours each day

relax, kick back, even have some sorbet.

Be sure to laugh, smile and have lots of fun

before you know it, the school day is done.

On to homework, dinner and then off to soccer

showers and bed, the day’s over, what a shocker!

Leave the laundry and dishes and turn out the lights

Give the kids all a hug and a big kiss goodnight!

The kids look adorable, and we love those teachers that give us a little free time to work off those ice cream sandwiches we all ate!

How cute! I miss those days as I pack up the van to take my girls to college. I love the part of leaving the laundry. Enjoy your kids while they are small. The laundry will always be there, the kids….off on their adventures.

Those were the days. I took my baby to college on aug.27 and now here I am with no more summers to fill and lunches to pack or homework to worry about. It feels very strange. I miss it a lot …..and yet its nice to have this time for my husband and me. Although we’re in low maintenance phase, the worries continue and are bigger than ever. …………MOMMIES FOREVER!!!
