Our Insurance Video

The fires in Southern California continue to burn around us.  The hot weather and wind just won’t let up to give our firefighters a break.  I have the TV on constantly to hear the updates and watch for any new flare-ups.  It seems like every year at this time I update what I call our insurance video, a good idea for anyone living in a potential disaster area, or heck anyone really.  No need to wait for a fire, hurricane, tornado or flood for this one.

Our insurance video consists of me video taping everything in and around our house.  The first thing I do on the video is recite the date and the address of the house.  I then take footage of the outside of the house and the property itself.  I also take a few shots of our vehicles and say their make and model.  Once I move onto the inside of the house, I video each and every room and absolutely everything in it.  Furniture, electronics, appliances, I even go into the closets.  You name, anything of value, it’s on the video.  Don’t forget the basement and garage.

Once I have all the footage, I  make two copies of it.  One copy goes into our lock box and the other copy I send to a family member.  In the event that you ever lose your home, for whatever the reason, a video like this can come in quite handy when dealing with your insurance company.  It’s a quick and easy and can help out when it comes to putting a value on your home and it’s contents.
