What’s Making Me So Itchy?

I finally took the time to take care of me today.  No I didn’t work out or have lunch with a friend (see last post).  I took myself to the doctor, to the allergist actually.  See, for the past three years I’ve had constant sinus problems.  I know it’s allergy related, so in attempt to finally deal with the 3 year long problem, I decided to go get tested to see what exactly I’m allergic to, in hopes that I can eliminate it from my life and go back to breathing like a normal person.

Gotta love allergy tests.  Where else can you strip down semi naked while some cold fingered nurse pricks you all over your entire back with tiny needles and drizzles “essence of itchiness” all over you, then leaves you to suffer for 15 minutes until they can examine what is giving you a reaction.  I have a little tip for them, IF WE’RE ALLERGIC IT ITCHES IMMEDIATLEY AND WE WANT IT OFF NOW!!!!!!  What is this waiting for 15 minutes crap?  So we can suffer?!  Is this their idea of a cruel joke!  I’m imagining a hidden camera with all the nurses huddled around a tv screen laughing at me as a wiggle and squirm trying not to do that one thing I’m dying to do, to grab the nearest sharp object and scrape the flesh off my back.

After a very long 15 minutes, and lying delirious and semi-conscious on the table, I am finally visited by the doctor who informs me, “Nicole.  It looks like you are allergic to everything outdoors.”  “Everything?” I ask.  “Everything.”  Here is my test result to prove it.

My Allergy test

Notice EVERYTHING in the outdoor categories has a number.  Notice only the foods and indoor things do not.  In other words, I am allergic to being outside.  Hmm….Let’s think about that…not exactly conducive to my lifestyle.  I spend a fair amount of my life outside.  But here’s what really confuses me.  If the cure for allergies is small regular doses of exposure via shots over extended periods of time, why haven’t my regular daily ventures out my front door cured me of these allergies already?  Why are they getting worse?  It’s all sounds a little “crocky” to me, but I made an appointment for 3 weeks from now to start my shots.

Okay, I know this isn’t parenting related or kid related, but I’m sitting at my computer 12 hours later and it’s the only thing on my mind because my back STILL itches!!!
