Yesterday there was an incident in our town where a boy walking home from school was approached by a car that had three people in, one of those he described as a teenager. The teenager jumped out of the car and told the boy to hurry and get in the car. Thankfully, the boy started to run and immediately pulled out his cell phone. The car continued to follow him. Once the people in the car noticed that the boy had his cell phone out, they quickly turned the car down another road and drove away.
The boy was able to give a good description of the car and the people inside to the police. In turn, the parents immediately drafted an email out with all the pertinent information to all their family and friends and almost instantaneously that email went viral to everyone in our valley. Since receiving that email for the first time last night, I had received it 15 more times by 10 am this morning. So, rather than having to wait to read about the incident in today’s paper, thanks to the email network, I was already able to make my kids aware of the situation and to keep their eyes and ears open.
While we may all complain about email at times, this was a perfect example to prove that it can be used as a valuable tool when it comes to the safety of our kids. Great job parents for getting the information out to everyone.
