Please Pick Up After Your Dog

May 2, 2010 by

I walk my dogs everyday  around our neighborhood and I always have 2-3 poop bags tied to the end of the leash so when the dogs decide to go, I’m ready.  And yes, Brad, since I know you would commnet on this, when I take the dogs on a hike and they poop on the side of the trail in the brush, I usually let that go (it’s good fertilizer).  But, I would never leave a big ole pile on someone’s lawn or in the middle of the sidewalk, even if I had run out of bags, I would get a bag and go back and pick it up, it’s just the right thing to do.

Now, in our neighborhood, there are little grassy areas for dogs to do their business.  They all have a trash receptacle where you can throw out the poop bags and right above the receptacle, there is a little dispenser for free poop bags.  They keep the bags pretty well stocked, I can’t remember the last time the dispenser was empty.

Today I was walking the dogs and passed two big piles on two different lawns and then a huge pile right in front of the trash receptacle in one of the grassy areas, and yes, there were poop bags available.  Come on people, bend your ass over and pick up your dog’s sh#*!  There is no excuse other than pure laziness that you would not pick it up.  And if I see someone’s dog leaving a pile on my lawn and you don’t pick it up…I warn you now, you will find it in your mailbox.  What is this world coming to.

I have to agree. I walk my dog every morning and evening and carry a flashlight if need be so that I can see the poop and be sure to pick up every last bit. nothing worse than getting home after having stepped in a pile! but I continually pass people walking their dogs in the pitch dark, letting them do their business in the road or people’s lawns – really makes me mad. Now I am even going to purchase biodegradable poop bags because I feel I am contributing too much plastic to the local landfill. We all have responsibilities. If you can’t bend over – let your dog poop in your own yard.
