Calling All Hess Toy Truck Fans

The Hess Toy Truck has been a holiday tradition since 1964, and is one of the longest running toy brands on the market.

When I lived back east, I bought one every year.  I remember lining up at the Hess station in Newton, NJ with my mom to get my Hess truck and was thrilled to get it home and show it off.  I even started to collect them for my boys.  Once we made our move to Southern California I was out of luck since they were only available for purchase on the east coast.  My kids played with them for years but had no idea how valuable they were to me and actually sold a bunch at one of our garage sales.  I think I still have a few left in the house but nothing compared to what I had.

I was so excited to see that this year, the Hess Toy Vehicle is available online, woot woot!

Lighting up the sky this year, the 2012 Hess Helicopter and Rescue takes flight Friday, Nov. 9 at participating Hess and Hess Express retail stores and, for the first time ever, will be sold online at, retailing for $26.99 plus tax (plus shipping for online orders) – Energizer® batteries included.

I have been collecting Hess toys now since 1990, both full size and minis. I can’t wait to see what the toy will be for 2013!!!

My son is now pushing four years old, and would like a second one of these in red. So, now my only complaint about this toy is that there doesn’t seem to be anything else comparable. Did Hess make the best toy helicopter ever as a one-off marketing premium? It seems sort of cruel.
