Microsoft’s Xbox One – Mom is NOT Your Biggest Fan

Oh no, the Xbox One, the fancy new unit from Microsoft,  that has been eagerly anticipated by my boys, was unveiled this week. Figures, it’s not available until “later this year.”  All us moms know what that means – most likely the 2013 holiday season. Oh, and of course, the unit will not be backwards compatible with all the games my boys currently have. Let’s see, the cost, not yet available, I’ll take a guess around $500. And those expensive custom controllers the boys got last Xmas, nope, can’t use them. I’m sure only a limited amount of units will ...

Homework without Tears

I used to think I was the anomaly, that some how my 9 year old was the only kid who cried over having to do homework.  I used to think that I was doing something wrong, that I was somehow creating more stress for him or putting too much pressure on him.  That all changed when I was reading the latest “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” to my daughter the other night and saw a blurb about how Gregory’s mom had a reward chart on the wall that was entitled “Homework without Tears”. What’s this? I’M NOT ALONE!!!! Okay, albeit I ...

Mom Goes Cup Shopping

Last week my two younger boys both requested I go purchase them new protective cups for sports. When I looked at the ones they were using I thought to myself, these must be pee wee cups, they must be super uncomfortable and not very protective if they were to get hit. The question I had to ask them was what size should I get?  I had to laugh when one said, “mom, I need a huge one” and then the other said, “well, I probably need a bigger one than him!”  As always, this led to a little verbal battle ...

Four Teenagers, Oh My!

Happy Birthday to my baby twin boys. I remember being in recovery after I gave birth to them and thinking to myself,oh my gosh, I now have four kids and someday I will have four teenagers, will I really be able to handle it? Well, today that thought became a reality, I officially have 4 teenagers in the house!  My hair is already gray and my handling of stress isn’t that great so I think I’m in for some tough years ahead. Happy Birthday boys! MommyWarriors

The Battle to Get My Daughter Out of the House on Time 1

There is never a morning when my 14 year old daughter can be ready for school ON TIME.  What on earth she does in that bathroom of hers blows my mind. Every  morning it’s the same thing.  I ask if she’s ready to go and I get the same the response, “not yet.”  What that means to me is to go pick up the rest of the carpool and come back to get her.  After I pick everyone else up, I have 5 boys in my car who are all complaining as we wait in the driveway for my daughter ...

Cup Hygiene, Do Your Boys Have It?

Having three boys in the house can get a little gross at times.  From the toothpaste on the bathroom wall to smelly socks under the bed, my boys are not the neatest ones around and their hygiene is, well, I just won’t get into the details. I do have a lot of tolerance for most of their gross things, after all I wiped and cleaned their little butts for how many years.  But the one thing that really ticks me off is having to handle those nasty cups!  They used to leave them right in their compression shorts and I ...

Bathroom Encroachment

As if being a 14 year old girl and having your own bathroom isn’t enough, my daughter seems to think she has run out of counter space in her bathroom. Not only has she taken over part of the counter space in the guest bathroom downstairs but, now she is slowly working her way into my bathroom. The buck has got to STOP here.  My bathroom is off limits, it’s the only place I can escape to a little peace and quiet . For heavens’s sake this girl is getting ridiculous, how many different lotions, sprays, brushes, makeup bags, nail ...

Rocks Across the Pond – Book Review 1

Since one of my boys is still really into baseball, I recently picked up and read a great book titled, ROCKS ACROSS THE POND Lessons Learned. Stories Told.  by Richard and Kathy Verlander. The Verlanders are parents to one of, or THE best pitcher in Major League Baseball, Justin Verlander with the Detroit Tigers. ROCKS ACROSS THE POND is a wonderful book that takes readers on a journey of a set of everyday parents who went in blind and steered their son, and themselves, through the everyday challenges of Little League, travel, high school and college baseball and then on ...

No More Shopping in the Boys Department

School shopping for my kids this year proved to quite expensive..  For the past year or so my daughter has been shopping in the Junior Department where the prices are a bit higher than the girls so there was no surprise there but, I was always able to make my way over to the boys department to do the rest of the shopping.  This year, I didn’t even step foot in the boys department, it was all about the men’s department. No more cute little t-shirts, adjustable waists or super deals.  Men’s sneakers are ridiculously priced, as are the shorts. ...

Really, Over a Pair of Socks

I was sitting on the floor folding laundry last night when I heard two of my boys start an argument.  At the time, I wasn’t quite sure what the argument was over but, I figured it was harmless since I heard some laughing taking place.  Quickly, the argument started to turn ugly.  I heard louder yelling and stuff being thrown around.  It was time for mom to intervene. By the time I got to my feet, a loud boom was heard from the bedroom where everything was taking place.  Now, there was screaming and bumps against the wall.  By the ...
