Eggo Waffles are a staple in my house and my freezer can usually be found filled with a variety of Eggo Waffle flavors.  When I found out that Eggo had declared this week as the Week of the Waffles I told my kids and showed them the contest Facebook page and my daughter went right to work on the  Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches! Eggo is challenging waffle-lovers all over America  to submit their most creative recipes for a chance to win $5,000 with The Great Eggo Waffle Off! contest. Here are the rules for The Great Waffle Off! contest (additional details can ...

I Have to Collect Urine From the Dog, Really?

Yesterday afternoon the vet called me to let me know that she needed an early morning urine sample from my beagle to complete her “senior panel.”  I responded with, “Are you kidding me?”  A stool sample, that’s easy to collect, but urine? I posted my predicament on Facebook and my wonderful friends gave me some advice to complete my task. A baggie and a ponytail holder. Follow him around the yard with a Tupperware bowl and then catch the pee when he lifts! Old disposable pie pan, when they squat push it under them, lol. Why can’t the vet do ...

Facebook’s Parental Problem 2

Facebook is talking about issuing accounts to children 12 and under.  As of today,  you are supposed to be 13 to open an account,  though there is no real way to police this.  Allowing any kid to have a Facebook account is a controversial subject.  Some parents I talk to are adamantly against it.  These parents tend to have younger kids and have not yet faced the realities of having a pre-teen / teenager.   In actuality,  once you have a middle schooler, it becomes very difficult to stop them from having a Facebook account.  Not only has it become ...

Kids and Facebook, How Old Should They Be? 1

At what age should kids go on Facebook? Even though Facebook has a minimum age of 13 to sign up for an account, that has not stopped kids 12 and under from either signing up for their own page or having their parents do it for them. SodaHead.com, the web’s largest opinion-based community, polled its users to find out the age that they thought kids should be able to join Facebook.  Poll results indicate that while 34% of respondents believe that 13 is an appropriate age, 48% believe that Facebook users should be older than 13 years of age.  29% of voters ...

Who Comes Up With This Stuff??

Just Opt-Out!

My son was complaining yesterday about how many emails he has in his inbox that don’t go into the spam folder. My first recommendation, look at it more than once a month!  Why he even has an email account is beyond me.  Between Facebook and texting, email is the last thing he checks.  After I sat and explained to him that he could “opt out” any of the email lists that he does not want to be on by just clicking the “opt-out” or “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of the email he came to a decision.  He turned and ...

11/2/11 MommyWarriors Words of Wisdom

I have a few friends on Facebook that post some great daily posts that I just have to share with our readers as our MommyWarriors Words of Wisdom.  You will certainly get a chuckle when you read them.  Where do they come from…some they make up, others they find on the internet.  If they author is known, I’ll post, otherwise just read and get a good chuckle! Letting go of someone doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means that you’ve applied the choke hold correctly and you just wanted to make them pass out instead of kill them! www.mommywarriors.com

Parent’s Aren’t the Only Ones Watching Social Media

There was an article today in USA Today that talks to the fact that a number of college admission officials are using Facebook and Google to learn about applicants.  The scary part is that the number has quadrupled since last year. With the age of kids getting on Facebook getting younger and younger, it can’t be stopped, the horses are out of the barn.  Therefore, it’s essential that parents are setting parameters for their kids when it comes to social marketing.  Pictures, posts, videos, you name it, they can come back to haunt them in the future.  While they might not ...

Posting Photos Online 1

A great article/video that talks about the photos you should NOT post online, especially Facebook.  May seem common sense to most but a great one to share with the kids for a good mom conversation. Upgrade Your LIfe: The 5 worst photos to post online by Taylor Hatmaker. www.mommywarriors.com

Oh, Those Dang Christmas Cards

Tis the season of Christmas cards.  I took the picture, had the cards made, printed out the labels with all the addresses and stuffed all the envelopes.  On to the post office where I stood in line for 25 minutes only to find out that they had run out of Christmas stamps a week and a half ago.  Oh well, the stamp flag will have do.  The stinky part about the whole thing, it costs me more to mail the dang cards than to print them.  Maybe next year I’ll just post my card on Facebook.
